On February 28, 2005 Crew Chief, Bill Self, answered the call for help from Pastor Gary Wallace and led a crew of 19 couples to Union, Arkansas. The Mount Zion Baptist Church had been meeting there since 1866 but the building had severe termite damage and had to be demolished.
Volunteer Christian Builders along with a few other local volunteers in an old fashioned church raising. They put up a 7,000 square foot building in two weeks.
Pastor Wallace is still there today as pastor. According to their Facebook page the church has a 5 out of 5 rating for being a caring and loving church that reaches out to everyone. We are so glad the Volunteer Christian Builders could be a part of their story.
Below is an article featured in The Melbourne Times from March 9, 2005 about the time spent there and the church history.
